HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Helping the community

Income from these trips pays for local captains, local boats, and a crew of local fishermen who would otherwise make their money by unsustainable fishing in the area - we pay them fair wages that are higher than what would they make from fishing.

Shark nursery research

Blue Religion finances the expenses related to the research of juvenile sharks conducted by the students of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa in this area.

Change of the mindset

Blue Religion cooperates with local schools and the community and organizes educational and clean-up events and presentations in the area. We aim to work closely with the community, and improve the living standard in this fishing-oriented area.

ABOUT

ABOUT SAN BLAS

On this trip, we will take you to San Blas, a fishing town north of Puerto Vallarta. San Blas is a beautiful place nested in mangrove forests, with access to the open Pacific Ocean full of life. It is a place we chose as a base for our shark conservation program - a place where we cooperate with the local community and the Autonomous University of Sinaloa to study the importance of this area. Mangrove areas around San Blas serve as nurseries for juvenile sharks, they are a place where sharks spend the first part of their lives until they are big and strong enough to begin their journey in the open blue. Unsustainable fishing has a devastating impact on this area and that is why we are trying to offer an alternative source of income for the local fishermen.

Did you know that Nayarit is one of the states with the highest numbers of sharks being fished out in the entire Mexico?

As apex predators, sharks play a crucial role in the ecosystem by maintaining the species below them in the food chain. They help remove the weak and the sick as well as ensure species diversity. Sharks play a vital role in keeping our oceans in balance and they serve as an indicator of ocean health.

San Blas is not only a fishing area, but most importantly, a town on the coast of the Pacific ocean buzzing with marine life. You can look forward to two days of ocean safari with humpback whales, whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, and many more. And as San Blas is a more remote area, you can look forward to very intimate and respectful encounters with all these animals.

Your presence on this trip helps us to finance the study and educational activities and of course, it is a direct income for the local captains and crew of fishermen on the boats that you will have your experience on.

Enjoy the interactions with some of the most captivating big marine animals while helping the local community to grow.
